Plastering Abbreviations

We have composed a list of the common abbreviations using by plasterers.

• PVA
  • Polyvinyl acetate is a glue used in plastering to help control the backgrounds prior to plastering.
• SBR
  • Styrene Butadiene Rubber improves water resistance of cement mixtures by forming a reinforcing polymer that increases long term durability and flexibility of the mix on renderings and floor screeds.
• WBA
  • Wickes bonding agent - see Plasterers Primer
• FFL
  • Finish Floor Level - used for floor screeding
• DPC
  • Damp proof course
• DPM
  • Damp proof membrane
• EWI
  • External wall insulation
• IWI
  • Internal wall insulation
• EML
  • Expanding metal lath - used over wall plates / wood
