Trowel, Float, Trowel

The trowel, float, trowel process includes three applications of material.
For backgrounds based with sand on cement, the finishing coat should be applied in three applications. This is because a thicker coat is needed to cover up any grains of sand. It will also have a better finish that two-coat work.

Three applications may also be needed on plasterboard to increase the thickness of the material.

The best time to apply the finishing coat is when the background is green.

Floating coats that have dried can start peeling and blistering. When the plaster is being applied, the background will suck out all of the water.
